ATMOSPHERE- Southsiders Review
I’ll be brief with this review of the new project from Atmosphere titled “Southsiders”. Saying that this project sucks would be very rude and disrespectful to the artist as they may have put a lot of time and effort into the project. Unfortunately this is not a project to look out for if you’re looking for new music, it’s that bad. I was intrigued by some of their past songs and wanted to see what these guys could really do, but when rapper “SLUG” was given the chance he shows that he can’t even ride a beat properly which in the game of rap is unacceptable to say the least. MF DOOM is the only dude in recent memory that can rap off beat and it actually works for him and trust me when I say that SLUG is not MF DOOM in any regard.
I give some props to the producer of the group “ANT”, but the overall sound of the album ranges from good to corny and it left me to wonder what kind of album I was actually listening to and that’s not exactly a good thing when trying to digest an album. The worst part of all is that SLUG is a true hip hop veteran and can actually rap but the way he hops on the tracks is cringe inducing and takes away greatly from the project. Can and will Atmosphere get better with the next project? Maybe with some practice and refinement or has ATMOSPHERE hit their ceiling already? Only time will tell but the next go around I won’t be so eager to come along for the ride.
